The 2007 CarDentals continued their on court undefeated streak with a win on Thursday night at the U of L SAC.
The Cardentals defeated The Giant Killers 61-56 in a hard fought matchup in conference play. The Giants got off to a quick start hitting a barrage of threes, but their lead wouldn't last. The Cards rallied back with some tough defense and a few long balls of their own. Led by All Star Ben "Benihana!" Taylor, the Cards took a 4 point lead into half time.
The Cards stretched their lead to as much as 12 points behind the solid play of Nate "The Grate" Cotton and "Slick" Willy Whiteside. The low post was handled by "Big" Joe Chichetti who made his 2007 debut by grabbing numerous rebounds and causing general panic whenever the Giants came into the lane. I only scored 5 points on the night (I just couldn't get to the rim like I usually do), but I focused on distributing to my teammates and ended up with 6 assists.
Anyways, the Giants made a crazy comeback and twice cut the lead to four points after hitting silly three pointers. Steely reserve was seen in both Whiteside and Taylor who combined to hit 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to keep the game out of reach.
Next week the Cards take on league leading Miller Time in the regular season finale. The matchup will decide the league title and determine tournament seeding.
